Why I Volunteer
Empowered Women Empower Women
“This is exactly what Women Build does! I have wanted to volunteer with Habitat for a long time but wasn’t exactly sure what it would entail or if I was qualified and was too nervous to start. When I heard about Women Build, I knew it was a perfect opportunity to give back and get my feet wet. And not only that, this was an event for women (at least mostly), which instantly interested me! I have learned so many skills and gained confidence while helping to build homes and give back to our community in a women-centered way. I have loved the experience so much!”
“Each week I was exposed to new skills and encouraged to give it a try. I was comfortable to move just outside my comfort zone, one step at a time.”
“Working alongside the homeowner and seeing their excitement and confidence increasing, I realized they were not just building a home – they were building a future. It was beautiful and inspiring.’
“This experience has made me a better leader and mentor. To watch the dedication and respect between the volunteers and to see the growth of each individual was unparalleled.”
“I have had the opportunity to work with wonderful women. We have bonded together and become good friends and it is always good to see them again on the next build.”
Aiken County Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build program provides an opportunity for women to learn useful, lifelong skills in a supportive environment while meeting new friends and helping deserving families. Our theme is “Women Helping Women – No One Does It Alone”. While Habitat houses are designed to help any qualified family, more than 60% are built for women heads of households. Come join us!
