Aiken Habitat for Humanity Thanks Volunteers
On behalf of the staff and homeowners served by the Aiken Habitat for Humanity affiliate, I would like to say THANK YOU to the hundreds of volunteers who support our mission year after year. It takes dozens of individuals to serve as volunteers on our Board of Directors and our many committees; to serve as volunteer staff in the office and in the ReStore during operating hours 5 days a week; to serve as volunteers on the construction sites, and to prepare and serve lunch to those working on the houses.
During an average year, Aiken Habitat builds or renovates 4 houses so that deserving low-income families may escape sub-standard living conditions, purchase an efficient, affordable home, and become proud homeowners. And over the course of our homeownership process, the homeowner partners and volunteers have the opportunity to learn new skills ranging from budgeting and financial management to general building skills to basic home maintenance. Habitat provides a hand up, not a hand out!
In order to accomplish the Aiken Habitat mission, more than 300 different individuals volunteer in excess of 13,000 hours over a typical year. Now in our 29th year in Aiken, we have served more than 104 deserving families in need decent and affordable housing. We thank all who support us; especially all the volunteers who help us make a difference year after year in the lives of our homeowner partner families here in Aiken County. God bless you all,
Richard C. Church
