Aiken County Habitat for Humanity Breaks Ground on House #68

“Aiken Retirees Giving Back”

On Friday, January 25th Aiken County Habitat for Humanity broke ground on its 68th house.  The theme for this Habitat build, located at 674 North Sumter in Aiken is “Aiken Retirees Giving Back” and in this case, the theme means everything as the house is being entirely sponsored by a local retired couple, Kay and Joe Buggy.  Joe Buggy is a retired former executive at the Savannah River Site during the years that Westinghouse was the site operator.  The Buggy’s would like to use this Habitat build as a challenge to all retirees in the community to give something back by coming out and helping build this home.

Aiken County Habitat for Humanity is within reach of its goal of doubling the number of homes that it normally builds each year.  With the achievement of this goal, it will be poised to make an even greater impact on the low-income housing problem facing our County and State.  Our partnership with the Habitat sponsors and supporters, the hundreds of volunteers and the public are the pillars of Habitat’s successful outreach drive.  Habitat and its partners share a common purpose and vision which binds our unity in providing to very low-income families with homeownership opportunities that they would not have otherwise.
